Music Director Mark Olson has put together a program that blends old favorites like Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride" and Ralph Vaughan Williams's setting of "Greensleeves" with new pieces like the Mannheim Steamroller's "Auld Lang Syne" and a jazz arrangement of popular Christmas tunes by Sammy Nestico in "A Fireside Christmas." Other highlights of the program include an inventive new arrangement by David Lovrien of well-known carols in "Minor Alterations: Christmas Through the Looking Glass" and a Christmas-in-the-Round segment that will have the musicians encircling the audience for a special serenade by each instrument section.

The Middlesex Concert Band will be joined by the First Baptist Church of Wakefield's Handbell Choir, under the direction of the church's music director and organist, Donna Burns, who will be featured in a segment of their own before joining the band in a performance of Robert Longfield's "The Bells of Christmas." This moving piece features narration based on the story of how Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote the famous carol," I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day," which will be read by Ernie Stevens.

Stevens, a retired elementary school teacher in Arlington and longtime stage performer, will also narrate a performance of Clement Moore's famous poem, "The Night Before Christmas," set to music by Randol Alan Bass. Stevens recently performed with the Middlesex Concert Band, providing narration for Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" at their annual children's concert in October, and is excited to be partnering with the group once again.

Each audience member will receive a treat bag with an assortment of holiday cookies and candies and may enjoy a variety of complimentary hot and cold beverages. In addition to the musical entertainment, the afternoon will also feature an extensive selection of homemade packaged baked goods for sale and a raffle of a cookie jar filled to the brim with samples from the bake sale.

Our music will include:

The Eighth Candle - Steve Reisteter
Sleigh Ride - Leroy Anderson
The Bells of Christmas - Robert Longfield
